Los Angeles-brand Elwood, a brand rooted in mid-90s skate with a flair for vintage-inspired basics, has opened what’s expected to be the first of several physical stores.

The door is located on Hewitt Street in downtown Los Angeles, where the company is also headquartered.

Elwood sells T-shirts, tanks, sweatpants, sweatshirts, denim and jackets with the line made up of worn in, yet upscale looks that include cotton canvas drop shoulder jackets ($125), organic cotton T-shirts with just the right amount of drape ($75 for three), long sleeve thermal tops ($50) and brushed terry sweatpants ($65).

Elwood’s store continues its mostly direct-to-consumer distribution strategy. Although, the line is sold in some retailers, such as Nordstrom

The store will include the company’s regular range, in addition to exclusives and a vintage assortment.

“As a predominantly online brand, this gives us an amazing opportunity to showcase our products in a much more creative landscape,” the company said in a statement. “We hope to see all of our customers there and give them a unique experience that we have created.”

The store’s building is the former home of famous punk club Al’s Bar and had previously been occupied by The Rogue Collective, a multi-brand boutique with a focus on labels made in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles neighborhood continues to be a popular pick for brands looking to set up permanent or temporary retail outposts.

Elsewhere in downtown Costa Mesa-based streetwear brand Basketcase is set to hold a pop-up shop on Saturday. The temporary door will carry exclusives, bestsellers and have on-site screenprinting.

The label, which was started by Zach Kinninger, will also make its capsule collection, named Uniform, available via its online shop, which is only open to purchase during select times, to run alongside the pop-up for those unable to make it to Los Angeles. The capsule consists of some of the label’s most popular items, including denim flare leg pants ($200), a logo knit sweater ($150), logo T-shirt ($60) and sunglasses ($200).
