J.S. Rosenfield & Co.’s well curated country marts are scoring big this summer.

The real estate firm’s Brentwood Country Mart in Santa Monica nabbed the first Los Angeles County location for women’s contemporary brand Varley. That was followed by the opening of London men’s swim trunk maker Orlebar Brown, which also set up shop at the Mart.

The boutique retail center’s sister outpost in Larkspur is set to see another Varley opening at the Marin Country Mart July 26.

The two outposts join a Varley store at Irvine Co.’s Fashion Island in Newport Beach as the brand’s only California stores. Varley also has locations in New York, Boston, Chicago and Dallas.

The company, which has offices in Los Angeles and London, launched in 2014 by husband and wife Lara and Ben Mead. It has since grown to include tops, pants, dresses, knitwear, outerwear, bags and footwear.

The label is in over 1,000 retailers’ doors and opened its first-ever store in 2023 on King’s Road in London. Its first U.S. store followed a year later on Broadway in New York’s SoHo neighborhood.

Lang to Row DTLA

In other specialty retail center news, Row DTLA is set to see the opening of Asian fashion-focused boutique Lang on Sunday.

Lang, which was started by Kayla Wong, touts fashion labels operated by Asian designers focused on made to order and other sustainable practices. Brands carried include Grocery, Aim Higher Club, Geel, Empath, Raw Emotions and Coda.

The incoming store at the Row DTLA will serve as Lang’s new flagship boutique, replacing its former store at Gin Ling Way in Chinatown.

Lang follows the openings of House of Spider Silk in June and Aer Los Angeles in May at Row DTLA.

The retail and office development, which is located at the former American Apparel factory in Downtown Los Angeles, last month celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Smorgasburg. The gathering of food and other local vendors every Sunday at the Row has been a consistent draw for the retail center as its sought to find its way on the leasing side after its 2016 opening.
