Melody Ehsani has stepped down as creative director at Foot Locker as the Los Angeles streetwear designer pursues new opportunities.
“I am grateful for this chapter as my role as the creative director with Foot Locker comes to a close to refocus on other creative endeavors and forge new paths,” Ehsani said in an Instagram post Tuesday evening. “Foot Locker will always be family, and I am excited to continue my journey with them on other projects in the near future.”
Ehsani is the founder, CEO and artistic director of ME., a label she started in 2007 focused around female empowerment. The brand, which has a flagship store on Fairfax Avenue, encompasses jewelry, clothing and accessories.
Ehsani was named creative director of the sneaker retailer in March 2021 in a deal that had her designing quarterly capsules for Foot Locker. The role also included Ehsani curating Nike and Jordan products.
Ehsani’s first capsule for Foot Locker debuted in the summer of 2021, available in the company’s stores and online. Melody Ehsani x Foot Locker pop-ups were set up ahead of releases to give consumers in a select city early access as part of a bid to make the pieces accessible to as many people as possible.
Foot Locker is in the midst of shuttering underperforming stores, many of them in malls, which will result in cuts of nearly 400 stores by 2026 in the North American market. Meanwhile, the company will expand the doors of its kids House of Play concept and Power Stores that integrate local artists, exclusive product and community events.
