RVCA founder Pat Tenore is on the fast track with his namesake contemporary sportswear brand Tenore.
The Costa Mesa-based men’s and women’s label is set to celebrate next weekend the grand opening of its first-ever store, located in Honolulu’s Waikiki Shopping Plaza.
Other brands at the seaside shopping center include Lululemon, Sephora and H&M.
The new store follows a similar path at retail taken by Tenore’s former company RVCA, which seamlessly blended the arts and sports world into the clothing brand.
Tenore, which touts the tag line “Highest of the Ordinary,” will span a two-level space in Waikiki. The ground floor will carry the latest apparel assortment in addition to serving as a rotating gallery. The second level will be a venue for everything from Jiu Jitsu, yoga and art classes to performances.
The store will be the starting point for bi-monthly runs, the first of which will be a 5K the morning of Sept. 27. Surf lessons and beach cleanups are also planned.
Growing Up Fast
Tenore, who left his former brand in September 2023 as part of a round of sweeping layoffs, didn’t miss a beat post-RVCA and started his new label in short order.
Tenore officially launched last July with a broad selection of elevated men’s and women’s hoodies, T-shirts, crewnecks, sweatpants and hats. Details such as elastic sleeve cuffs, bungee cord waistbands and smart fabrications that respond to temperatures have helped set the start-up apart.
Tenore’s extensive contact list from his previous brand allowed for the business to get placement in stores such as Val Surf, Jack’s Surfboards and Sun Diego Boardshop.
There’s also an ever-growing roster of sponsorships and collaborations with athletes and artists, which Tenore calls its “advocate” network. That’s not unlike the RVCA Artist Network Program that business had in a bid to highlight the work of emerging and well-known artists.
Currently counted in Tenore’s advocates group are Billy Kemper, Landon McNamara, Zak Noyle, Kade and Tye Ruotolo. Several of those individuals are expected to be active participants in the store, leading workshops.
Tenore’s new store is located at 2250 Kalakaua Avenue, at the corner of Kalakaua and Seaside avenues where Honolulu Souvenirs previously sat.
