South Coast Plaza beat Khaite’s Melrose door by a few months to serve as the brand’s first-ever West Coast boutique when the Orange County store opened in March.

Khaite is the brainchild of Creative Director Catherine Holstein, who launched the brand in New York in 2016 in conjunction with Hyatt hotel heir Adam Pritzker and Vanessa Traina. Holding company and lender Assembled Brands, which Pritzker founded and runs, provided the start-up capital to Khaite and has since established itself as a lender for emerging brands.

Other companies in the Assembled portfolio include Los Angeles beauty retailer Violet Grey, female-founded Portland apparel company Wildfang, Hermosa Beach purse maker Hammitt, San Diego towel company Sand Cloud and Oceanside eyewear firm Raen.

Most recently, Khaite received a 2023 investment from Stripes, which has fueled the more recent store growth. The brand also has stores in SoHo and Madison Avenue in New York, Highland Park Village in Dallas and Korea.

At the time of the Stripes investment, the company was expected to open 10 stores through 2028, according to Vogue Business.

The label presented its Spring/Summer 2026 collection Saturday evening.

Les Tien on 3rd Street

In case you missed it, upscale basics brand Les Tien opened its first-ever store on 3rd Street last month.

It’s a big milestone for the Los Angeles brand, which launched in 2018 and has crafted a distinct point of view with its minimalist men’s and women’s styles.

The company, which is French for “yours,” produces its line in downtown, designed by founder and Creative Director Courtney Michelle Ogilvie. Online, it’s carried by Net-a-Porter and Moda Operandi.

The label has a substantial wholesale business and is carried in several boutiques and online retailers across the U.S., Belgium, Japan, France, London and other places. Retailers include American Rag Cie in Los Angeles, Maloufs in Burlingame, Guild in Venice and Maxfield’s Malibu and Los Angeles locations.

Les Tien’s store is located at 8383 W. 3rd St.
