Paliskates Picks Up from Palisades Fire with Brentwood Store

The long-time skate shop is also planning an eventual return to the Palisades.

Long-time Pacific Palisades skate shop Paliskates has found a new home in Brentwood after January’s wildfire destroyed its original location.

The skate shop, which called Swarthmore Avenue its flagship outpost since 1999, lost the building to the Palisades Fire and had been operating as an online shop since then. The new Brentwood location on 26th Avenue, which technically holds a Santa Monica address, brings the brand back to physical retail.

Paliskates, which was founded and continues to be run by Erica Simpson, sells apparel, footwear and skate hard goods. The business has an extensive line of Paliskates-branded T-shirts, long sleeve tops, crewnecks, hoodies, fleece pants and hats, mixed in with brands such as Adidas and New Balance.

“When we lost our Palisades store, it wasn’t just a building, it was part of our community,” Simpson said in a statement on the new location. “Finding a new home in Brentwood felt like the natural evolution of that story, a chance to keep our roots strong while embracing a fresh start.”

Incoming Retail

The new store, much like the original flagship, stands in proximity to a popular retail center in the Brentwood Country Mart. The former Palisades store had been located near developer Rick Caruso’s Palisades Village center.

The Brentwood store sits between The RealReal and Nordstrom Local on the street, in the former home of women’s clothing brand Elaine Kim.

Simpson still intends to rebuild in the Palisades, although the timing of that reopening is unclear.

When it does reopen, it stands to be in good company with Caruso projecting a 2026 reopening of Palisades Village, which was not burned down by the fire. Earlier this year, luxury boutique retailer Elyse Walker announced she intended to relocate her Palisades flagship to Palisades Village, taking up prime real estate fronting Sunset Boulevard.

Paliskates plans to hold a grand opening event at its new store on Nov. 14 at 212 26th Street.
