Los Angeles retailers, along with many other business owners and homeowners, were hit hard by the Pacific Palisades fire as early estimates of damages from the Los Angeles’ wildfires grows to more than $50 billion.
The Palisades Fire, the largest and first to erupt on Tuesday morning, remained uncontained as of Wednesday evening with nearly 16,000 acres burned. Wind gusts of as much as 100 miles per hour hit various parts of Southern California Tuesday, further fueling the speed of the fire’s spread and making it easier for more to erupt.
The Eaton Fire in the Pasadena area has impacted nearly 11,000 acres and remains uncontained. The Hurst Fire in Sylmar was 10 percent contained late Wednesday after hitting over 850 acres. Meanwhile, the Sunset Fire in the Hollywood Hills was the last to begin burning Wednesday evening.
The fires have forced more than 100,000 people to evacuate and caused some 400,000 homes to lose power. An early estimate from weather forecasting company AccuWeather indicated total damages from the fires could be between $52 billion and $57 billion. This range was released before the Sunset Fire began in the Hollywood Hills, which is likely to bump that range higher.
The Elyse Walker flagship boutique, owned by Elyse Walker, was one of several commercial structures that fell to the flames in the Palisades.
“I am beyond heartbroken by the devastation the fires caused in the beautiful town of Pacific Palisades,” Walker said on Instagram. “Like so many others, we were severely impacted as we lost our flagship Elyse Walker Pacific Palisades in the fires.”
Walker confirmed her staff is safe.
The state of Walker’s Towne store, located in the nearby Palisades Village, she said is unknown. Meanwhile, the Elyse Walker store in Calabasas is temporarily closed.
Other businesses burned down in the Palisades Village area include a Chase bank, Starbucks, Ralphs and Gelsons.
Meanwhile, a significant number of homes in the wealthy enclave were also lost.
The upscale shopping center Palisades Village, which is owned by Rick Caruso, remains intact.
