Luxury beauty retailer Cos Bar has expanded its footprint into Studio City as it further bolsters its presence in the West.
The Aspen-based company, which was started in 1976 by Lily Garfield as a single boutique, is now open at Midwood Investment & Development’s curated retail center, the Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge.
“Cos Bar adds an important element to our mix of retail at The Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge,” said Midwood Executive Vice President of Leasing Ron Bondy, who called the retailer a “natural fit” at the center.
“We are confident Cos Bar will resonate with our customer base and further elevate the center’s unique positioning,” Bondy went on to say in a statement.
Cos has made a name for itself by specializing in high-end skincare, makeup and fragrance products. Among the brands stocked on its shelves are Charlotte Tilbury, La Mer, Hourglass, Tom Ford, Vintner’s Daughter and R + Co.
With Studio City, Cos Bar now has 21 locations, most of those in the western region of the U.S. Within California, that includes Lido Marina Village in Newport Beach, Coast Village Square in Santa Barbara, Marin Country Mart in Larkspur and Brentwood Country Mart in Santa Monica.
Cos Bar last closed on a credit facility for an undisclosed sum from Second Avenue Capital Partners in 2021. The money was expected to go toward growth, the two companies said at the time of the deal.
That came after the beauty retailer raised money from private equity firm Tengram Capital Partners in 2015. The amount of the Tengram investment was also undisclosed. At the time, Cos Bar counted 14 doors.
For the over 100,000-square-foot Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge, Cos Bar’s opening keeps the tenant roster fresh and filled, with only one other space set to see a new business. The storefront, between Erewhon and Hoka is currently open after Parachute Home closed at the center.
Other tenants currently open at Sportsmen’s Lodge include Free People Movement, Sugarfish, The Great, Rolling Greens, Vuori and Alo Yoga. Alo fills a space previously occupied by the now shuttered Fred Segal.
