New York ready-to-wear brand Khaite has opened the doors to its second store on the West Coast, located in Gucci Salon’s former space on Melrose Avenue.
South Coast Plaza beat Khaite’s Melrose door by a few months to serve as the brand’s first-ever West Coast boutique when the Orange County store opened in March.
Khaite is the brainchild of Creative Director Catherine Holstein, who launched the brand in New York in 2016 in conjunction with Hyatt hotel heir Adam Pritzker and Vanessa Traina. Holding company and lender Assembled Brands, which Pritzker founded and runs, provided the start-up capital to Khaite and has since established itself as a lender for emerging brands.
Other companies in the Assembled portfolio include Los Angeles beauty retailer Violet Grey, female-founded Portland apparel company Wildfang, Hermosa Beach purse maker Hammitt, San Diego towel company Sand Cloud and Oceanside eyewear firm Raen.
Most recently, Khaite received a 2023 investment from Stripes, which has fueled the more recent store growth. The brand also has stores in SoHo and Madison Avenue in New York, Highland Park Village in Dallas and Korea.
At the time of the Stripes investment, the company was expected to open 10 stores through 2028, according to Vogue Business.
The label presented its Spring/Summer 2026 collection Saturday evening.
